स नः स्तवान आ भर गायत्रेण नवीयसा ।

Meaning

सः (Sah): He; that Supreme Being; that Paramatma. Here, ‘Sah’ refers to the Supreme Being who protects human life and guides it towards higher development. As stated in the previous mantras, it is the Supreme Being who leads human beings towards progress through divinity, yajna and havi.

नः (Nah): For us; for our sake. This is not a personal request alone; it is a prayer on behalf of the whole human community. It expresses the feeling that divine grace should be available to everyone.

स्तवानः (Stavaanah): One who is praised; one who is being praised; or one who praises. Here, ‘Stavaanah’ indicates the state of truly praising the Supreme Being. Praising God is not merely verbal praise or recitation of hymns; protecting and properly using the body, life and opportunities given by God is the higher form of praise. Protecting the body given by God and preserving the life force without wasting it are true forms of divine praise.

आ भर (Aa Bhara): Bring; fill; grant; bless. This is a prayer addressed to the Supreme Being. It contains the prayer, “Fill our lives with the necessary resources and noble qualities.”

गायत्रेण (Gaayatreṇa): Through Gayatri; through the method that protects life; through Gayatri praise. The word ‘Gayatri’ is traditionally explained through “Gayaan traayate,” meaning that which protects living beings. रयिम् (Rayim): Wealth; prosperity; resources necessary for life. Here, ‘Rayi’ does not refer only to monetary wealth. It includes health, family welfare, knowledge, good character, social prosperity and all forms of wealth that sustain life. The prayer is that God should grant human beings the resources necessary for a righteous life.

वीरवतीम् (Veeravateem): Endowed with courage; powerful; full of strength. Wealth alone is not sufficient; courage, discipline and strength to use it for good are also necessary. ‘Veeravatee’ indicates prosperity accompanied by courage, mental strength, energy and self-confidence. Wealth without strength is ineffective; strength without discipline can become dangerous. Therefore, the prayer is for both prosperity and strength.

इषम् (Isham): Food; nourishment; encouragement; noble inspiration. ‘Isha’ refers to food and nourishment that sustain life. It also indicates inner motivation, good inspiration and proper guidance. The prayer is that God should grant us nourishing food necessary for physical growth and also the noble inspiration to use wealth and strength in the right way.

This mantra deeply explains what true praise of God means in human life and how divine grace is attained by protecting life, the body and one’s way of living and by conducting life according to righteousness.

This mantra continues the spiritual foundation of divinity, yajna and havi presented in the previous mantras. Along with this, the mantra asks for “Isham” (Isham). ‘Isham’ means food and nourishment, and also carries the meaning of good inspiration and inner motivation. Nourishing food that protects the body and noble inspiration that enables one to use wealth and strength properly are essential in life. Otherwise, wealth and power may lead to arrogance and misuse. Therefore, the mantra asks God to grant not merely material prosperity, but also the wisdom and noble inspiration required to use it correctly.

Thus, this mantra deeply explains what the highest form of worship of God is in human life. Truly praising God is not merely through words; it lies in protecting the body and life force given by Him, living consciously according to the principle of Gayatri, and conducting life according to righteousness. For such a life, God should grant wealth, courage, nourishment and noble inspiration. Only when all these are harmoniously united can a person avoid misusing wealth and strength and proceed towards genuine higher development and spiritual progress. This is the profound ethical and spiritual teaching of the mantra.

Because wealth and strength without proper inspiration and wisdom can lead to arrogance and misuse, the balanced development of physical well-being, protection of life force, divine qualities, prosperity, courage and noble inspiration is essential. Living with all these in harmony is the true Gayatri worship and the complete divine way of life that leads a human being towards higher living and spiritual progress. This is the deep and complete teaching of this mantra.
