Meaning

कविम् (Kavim): The Kavi; the one possessing profound knowledge; the Supreme Knower with far-reaching vision. Here, ‘Kavi’ does not merely refer to a person who composes poetry. It refers to God, who knows everything truly, understands the past, present, and future, and possesses profound vision. He leads the human being towards the wisdom of understanding truth without being deceived by external appearances. He illuminates the Vijnanamaya Kosha of the human being with the light of knowledge and transforms him into a Krantadarshi, one possessing far-reaching vision.

अग्निम् (Agnim): Agni; the one who gives progress; the one who gives light; God. Here, ‘Agni’ does not merely mean fire; it refers to the divine light that leads the human being forward on the path of elevation. It also contains the meaning of ‘Agrani’, the one who leads from the front. God is the Agni who guides the body, mind, knowledge, and actions of the human being towards growth.

उप (Upa): Near; approaching; coming close. It means that God should not be regarded merely as a distant power, but should be approached within the heart and experienced as near. Spiritual life is an inner journey of approaching God.

स्तुहि (Stuhi): Praise; glorify; worship. This is an imperative word. The fundamental duty of the human being is to praise God, remember Him, and worship Him. Praise is not merely verbal glorification; accepting the noble qualities of God and living by them is true praise.

सत्यधर्माणम् (Satyadharmaanam): The one who establishes the laws of truth; the one who sustains everything through truth. God is ‘Satyadharma’, the one who sustains the world on the foundation of truth. When the human mind becomes disturbed by falsehood, deception, and injustice, it becomes impure; but truth purifies the mind. Divine truth purifies the Manomaya Kosha of the human being and establishes him in the path of Dharma.

अध्वरे (Adhvare): In Adhvara; in a non-violent Yajna; in a life free from deception. ‘Adhvara’ refers to a life that is non-violent, straightforward, and honest. God shines in such a pure life. When the organs of action of the human being do not engage in injustice and deceptive activities, but perform actions filled with honesty and Dharma, that life becomes ‘Adhvara’.

देवम् (Devam): The luminous deity; the radiant God. ‘Deva’ conveys the meaning of one who shines and one who gives knowledge. God gives light to the organs of knowledge of the human being. He illumines the powers of perception such as the eyes, ears, and mind so that they may function in a way that enables the human being to perceive truth.

अमीवचातनम् (Ameevachaatanam): The one who destroys diseases; the one who removes suffering and deficiencies. ‘Ameeva’ refers to disease, suffering, and deficiency. ‘Chaatana’ or ‘Chaatanam’ conveys the meaning of one who removes or destroys. God makes the Annamaya Kosha healthy and removes physical diseases; He also removes mental suffering and weaknesses. Thus, He makes the human being healthy, energetic, and capable of action.

Explanation

This mantra deeply explains the fundamental spiritual duty of the human being and how, through the worship of God, a person attains growth in body, mind, and knowledge.

In this mantra, God is first praised as “Kavi.” Here, ‘Kavi’ does not merely refer to one who composes poetry; it refers to the Supreme Knower who truly knows everything and possesses profound vision and far-reaching insight. A human being may become fascinated by the external beauty of the world and temporary pleasures and thereby forget the truth. But God awakens the human intellect through His light of knowledge and transforms the person into a Krantadarshi, one who perceives truth with far-reaching vision. He illumines even the Vijnanamaya Kosha of the human being and gives the vision required to understand life deeply.

The same God is also called “Agni.” Here, Agni is not merely external fire; it is the divine light that leads the human being forward on the path of elevation. The meaning of ‘Agrani’, the one who leads from the front, is contained in it. The work of the divine Agni is to guide the body, mind, actions, and knowledge of the human being towards growth and establish his progress. Therefore, this mantra calls upon the human being to “Upa Stuhi”, to approach God, praise Him, come near to Him, and worship Him. Worship of God is not merely verbal praise; true worship means accepting the noble qualities of God and putting them into practice in one’s own life.

This God is “Satyadharmaanam”, the One who sustains everything through truth. The world stands upon the principle of truth, and likewise the human mind becomes pure through truth. Falsehood, deception, and injustice pollute the mind; but divine truth purifies the Manomaya Kosha and establishes it in the path of Dharma. Therefore, worshipping God is equivalent to accepting a life based on truth.

The mantra also describes God as “Adhvare Devam.” ‘Adhvara’ refers to a life that is non-violent, free from deception, and straightforward. God shines in such a pure life. When the organs of action of the human being do not engage in injustice and harmful actions but are engaged in activities filled with honesty and Dharma, life becomes a Yajna. Then God, as “Deva”, the luminous divine Being, illuminates the organs of knowledge of the human being. He gives inner light so that the eyes may see truth, the ears may receive what is good, and the mind may think clearly.

When the body, mind, and knowledge become filled with light in this manner, God reveals Himself as “Ameevachaatana”, the remover of disease, suffering, and deficiency. ‘Ameeva’ means disease and suffering; ‘Chaatana’ conveys the meaning of one who destroys or removes. God makes the Annamaya Kosha healthy and gives physical well-being; He also removes inner diseases such as mental anxiety, weakness, and ignorance. Through this, the human being attains a healthy, energetic, and capable life.

Therefore, this mantra emphasizes that the fundamental duty of a human being is to approach God and worship Him. Such worship transforms the human being into one endowed with knowledge, one who walks on the path of progress, one whose mind is purified by truth, one established in a non-violent life of Dharma, and one who possesses health and illumination in body, mind, and knowledge. Thus God is the Supreme Agni who leads the human being from darkness to light and guides him from ordinary life towards a higher spiritual life.

Conclusion

This mantra emphasizes that the fundamental duty of the human being is to approach God, praise Him, and worship Him. That God is ‘Kavi’, the One who truly knows everything and gives human beings wisdom and far-reaching vision; ‘Agni’, the divine light that leads them on the path of progress; ‘Satyadharma’, the One who purifies the mind through truth and establishes it in Dharma; ‘Adhvare Deva’, the luminous divine Being who shines in a non-violent and honest life and helps human knowledge and actions develop in righteousness; and ‘Ameevachaatana’, the One who removes diseases, suffering, and deficiencies affecting the body, mind, and knowledge.

Therefore, worship of God is not merely a form of religious practice. It is a complete spiritual discipline that leads the human being towards a higher life that is healthy, capable, established in truth and Dharma, and illuminated by the light of knowledge. This is the profound teaching of this mantra.
