Explanation:

This mantra explains the three important paths for the spiritual elevation of a human being, namely devotion, purity of mind and knowledge, by integrating them together. It clearly explains that hymns praising the Divine are not merely words; they possess the power to bring about an inner transformation in a person.

“उक्थम् (Uktam)” refers to Vedic praise songs and hymns that describe the glory of the Divine. Such praise elevates the human mind and becomes the first step in directing it towards the right path. “इन्द्राय (Indraya)” refers either to the Supreme Power that is the source of all powers or to the one who has conquered the senses and attained a higher state of the Self. “शंस्यम् (Shamsyam)” means that which should always be praised with devotion; “वर्धनम् (Vardhanam)” indicates that such praise creates spiritual growth in a human being.

“पुरुनिष्षिधे (Purunishshidhe)” refers to the Divine power that can completely restrain inner enemies such as desire, anger and greed. In other words, the praise of the Divine destroys the negative qualities within a person. “शक्रः (Shakrah)” means powerful; it refers either to the Supreme Power capable of doing everything or to a self-controlled person who has mastered himself.

“सुतेषु (Suteshu)” means the state in which the mind has become pure, the pure spiritual state in which inner impressions and tendencies have been removed. In that state, a person clearly experiences the grace of the Divine. “रारणत् (Raranat)” refers to the Divine or the inner divine power strongly imparting knowledge to a person. “सख्येषु (Sakhyeshu)” refers to the intimate friendship that develops with the Divine; that is, the higher devotional state in which the devotee attains a personal relationship with the Divine.

The overall meaning of this mantra is that a person should remain established in the path of devotion by praising the Divine, purify the mind, conquer the inner enemies, and develop an intimate spiritual relationship with the Divine. Only then does knowledge become revealed within him, and he attains the state in which he can directly experience the guidance of the Divine. Thus, devotion, purity of mind and knowledge work together and lead a person towards a higher spiritual state and complete fulfillment in life. This is the profound teaching of this mantra.

Conclusion:

This mantra reveals a complete path for the spiritual elevation of human life. Hymns praising the Divine are not merely words; they purify the human mind, remove inner enemies such as desire, anger and greed, and lead a person towards a higher state of ethical living. That state of purity gives a person the capacity to clearly experience the grace of the Divine.

When the mind becomes pure, a person attains an intimate spiritual friendship with the Divine. In that state, the divine knowledge arising from within becomes the right guidance for him. Thus, when devotion, purity of mind and knowledge work together, a person fully manifests his inner strength and attains spiritual growth and the true purpose of life.

Therefore, the central teaching of this mantra is that devotion to the Divine purifies a person; purity gives rise to knowledge; and knowledge leads a person to the higher state of union with the Divine.
